Saskatchewan Olympian panel video now online

The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) and the Regina Public Library (RPL) presented an evening with a pair of Saskatchewan Olympians on July 20, 2021.

Justin Abdou and Lyndon Rush joined us to share their Olympic journey and how they overcame adversity to succeed in their sport. Both Olympians are members of the SSHF’s 2021 Induction Class.

The full video of the conversation – co-hosted by SSHF Education Coordinator Vickie Krauss and Amy Butcher, a Community Librarian with the RPL – is available below.

THANK YOU: 2018 Induction

Induction 2018 was a great success thanks to our sponsors, the Class of 2018, our volunteers and the many parade inductees who joined us for the celebrations. Events got underway with numerous family members, friends and media joining us Saturday afternoon at the SSHF for the Inductee Open House. This was an opportunity to grab a few autographs, check out the individual exhibits within Dedication to Sport, and visit with those about to enter the Hall of Fame.

Our formal induction celebrations were hosted at the Conexus Arts Centre in Regina, SK as we recognized the contributions and achievements of the Class of 2018 comprising: Kimberly Bergey Kaip (Judo & Wrestling), Lisa Franks (Athletics & Basketball), Johannes “Johnny” Gottselig (Hockey), Robert “Bob” Haver (Rowing), Richard Melville “Dick” Nash (Rodeo), David Pagan (Baseball), and the 1984 Randy Woytowich Mixed Curling Team. To each of the inductees we extend a heartfelt thank you for the privilege of working with you over the past few months. We certainly look forward to having you as part of the Hall of Fame family.

Special thanks are also extended to our Master of Ceremonies, Carlyle Fiset from Global Regina and Saskatoon, who also had the task of moderating a hotstove panel featuring four members of our new Induction Class. This was an opportunity for everyone in attendance to get to know our new inductees a little better, and it turned out to be a highlight of the evening! Thank you as well to all of our sponsors who helped to ensure that the induction events were a great success.

Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame – Annual Report – 2015

SSHF-2012-logo-color-Large

Each year, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame strives to preserve and promote the history of sport in Saskatchewan, and 2015 was no exception. The Government of Canada named 2015 “The Year of Sport in Canada” and encouraged all Canadians to celebrate the role that sport plays in their identity.

Our 2015 Annual Report will highlight some key redevelopment, awareness and self help strategies. It will also recap the addition of new staff members, partnerships, exhibits and events that have helped position the SSHF for a very exciting and successful 50th year in 2016.

Special thank you to all members of the Hall of Fame, your support over the past year has been overwhelming. We look forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary with you.

April Blog: The Keystone Cup

Throughout 2016, the SSHF will be selecting one special event each month to feature in our “12 Months, 12 Events” 50th anniversary project – dedicated to all 505 of our inductees and Saskatchewan’s rich sport history.

Our fourth event of the year served to celebrate The Keystone Cup in Regina.

A fan forum and autograph session celebrating the 2016 Keystone Cup Championship was hosted on April 15 and 16, 2016 at the Co-operators Centre in Regina. Since the Cup’s inception, 2016 represented the first time this prestigious junior B hockey championship had been decided in Regina. The Extreme Hockey Regina Capitals hosted the 2016 Keystone Cup at the Co-operators Centre from April 14-17.

In attendance to help celebrate the Championship and our 50th anniversary were the following inductees and special guests:

  • Cliff Koroll (Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame Inductee – Hockey 2015)
  • Morris Mott (Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame Inductee – Hockey 1980)
  • Terry O’Malley (Saskatchewan Hockey Hall of Fame Inductee – 2016)

The SSHF would like to sincerely thank the Keystone Cup organizing committee and our Master of Ceremonies, Taylor Shire, for helping to make this event possible.

Don’t miss your chance to help celebrate our 50th during our next special event!

The SSHF is extremely excited to be involved in the Heritage Fairs held throughout the province this year. For the first time in the history of the Fairs, a Sports specific award is being presented to a student during each Regional Fair (Regina, Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Swift Current), and at the Provincial Fair held in Regina. We are thrilled about the opportunity for a standalone Sports Award and look forward to involving inductees in the presentation and judging of the awards.

For the Record March

Kaylyn Kyle Autograph Signing At SSHOF : Presented By Mitchell Developments Ltd

As is the case with every Olympic Games our country partakes in, there was much accomplished with much left to be desired. One of the sports showcased at the games however seemed to be the perfect combination of both desire and accomplishment brought together in way that has brought pride to this country like few things before it.

When our Women’s Soccer team took to the pitch at the start of the games, little was known about how they would fair, yet expectation was high as they went into the London games as potentially the most skilled squad this country has ever assembled. Throughout the tournament there was controversy, struggle and success and through it all the team managed to maintain the composure and positive attitude that our entire nation has become famous for.

During the course of the games, stories began to unfold and the spotlight started to shine on a few of the team’s standouts from different parts of the country. One such standout just so happens to be Saskatchewan’s very own Kaylyn Kyle who, during this Olympics helped to place both Women’s soccer and this province on one of the highest stages it has ever seen.

As most people are now aware the team went on to capture a bronze medal, giving Canada it’s first ever podium finish in the sport. Since the closing of the games there has been a whirlwind of media attention surrounding not only Kaylyn, but the team in it’s entirety and upon returning home there has been little if anything to slow the momentum of anyone associated with this incredible accomplishment.

But Kaylyn, like most Canadian athletes, will never forget the people, or the place that helped her reach her goals and has been constantly giving back to the sporting community of Saskatchewan. Now in celebration of everything she has done, this rising star is being honored by the Saskatchewan Sports Hall Of Fame with an autograph signing and photo opportunity for friends and fans in the Regina area.

On October 20th, from 10AM to 12 Noon Kaylyn will be at the Hall, located at 2205 Victoria Ave, in Regina where she will be taking time to talk and sign autographs for everyone attending the event. There will also be a photographer on hand taking pictures at a cost of $5/each (cash only) for anyone who would like to mark this occasion with a personalized memento.

Come and go as you please from the event, and feel free to stay as long as you like to take in all the great information and history that The Saskatchewan Sports Hall Of Fame has to offer.

We would like to thank all of our amazing sponsors for this event, Signature Graphics, sharpshooter photography, Designer Photographic Technologies and our Presenting Sponsor Mitchell Developments Ltd. We would also like to thank the Saskatchewan Soccer Association as well as the Regina Soccer Association for their support, and look forward to seeing all of you on the 20th!
