E. W. “Joe” Griffiths

For 32 years, 1919 to 1951, while working at the University of Saskatchewan, Joe Griffiths made a great impact on athletics.

He coached high school and university track and swim teams, and was the Canadian Olympic team coach in both these sports in the 1936 and 1948 Olympics.

Joe Griffiths was a life member of the Royal Life Saving Society, Saskatoon’s Citizen of the Year, and he received the coveted honour award from the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation in 1948.
