Winter fun Saturdays at the SSHF this December!

Winter has arrived in Saskatchewan and that means it’s time to have some fun in the snow!

The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame will be hosting its Winter Pop-Up Event again this year on December 7, 14 & 21 from 1-3 p.m. This free event will be fun for the whole family and a great way for kids to get outside and have some fun this winter.

Join us at the Hall of Fame for a quick look around the Hall of Fame galleries, followed by games on our simulator, adaptive curling ice and interactive STEM Gallery sponsored by SaskTel. Then we will go outside to Victoria Park for some outdoor games in the snow. Afterwards everyone is invited back inside the Hall of Fame to warm-up with some hot chocolate and cookies. Guests are welcome to spend more time inside the Hall of Fame before we close at 4 p.m.

You can ensure your space at the event by registering on our website and choosing “Winter Pop-Up Event” under “Event Type” and your preferred date. Guests are also welcome to attend without pre-registering.

The program and the refreshments are free to all thanks to the support of the City of Regina’s Winter Initiatives Grant. Please be sure to dress for the weather and be prepared to be outside for close to an hour if you wish to enjoy all of the outdoor activities. We ask that everyone arrive at the Hall of Fame 10 minutes before we begin at 1 p.m.

School’s Out returns for Easter break

Kids out of school and don’t know what to do? Come and hang out and have some fun at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF)!

The SSHF is offering a new program during the Easter break to encourage kids to have fun and keep active.

Schools Out! is a 90-minute program that will run from April 11-14 and is being offered at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Hall of Fame (2205 Victoria Ave., Regina). The program will feature a guided tour of the Hall of Fame’s exhibits and then plenty of time to play and enjoy our multi-sport simulator, adaptive curling ice, and the STEM Interactive Gallery sponsored by SaskTel. The program will also feature ABC activities and allow time at the end to play and explore on your own.

Visitors to the STEM Interactive Gallery can test their vertical jump, their balance, their strength, their standing long jump, their flexibility, and their grip strength at our STEM stations. The multi-sport simulator is a popular favourite that allows visitors to test their sporting skills in a variety of virtual games like baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, and more. Our four-rock adaptive curling “ice” allows visitors to slide their stones down the ice either from their knees or with an adaptive stick that affixes to the stone.

The Hall of Fame’s featured exhibit is Fanfare, while the Dedication to Sport exhibit celebrates our 13 newest inductees.

Participation for one adult and one child requires a $5 donation. Each additional visitor (whether adult or child) requires another $2 donation. We ask that children be accompanied by an adult for the duration of their visit and the adults are welcome to participate as well. This program is best suited for children between the ages of 4-12. Water bottles are recommended as the water fountain in our foyer is not available to the public. Clean indoor shoes are also recommended.

Donations are non-refundable. We thank you for your understanding. Participants will receive a tax receipt for the cost of their donation.

If you have any questions, please email our Education Coordinator Vickie Krauss at [email protected] or call 306-780-9232.

There is a maximum of 20 spots available for each of the eight offerings of the program. Please reserve your space in the program by filling out the form below.

STEM Interactive Gallery sponsored by SaskTel now available as a virtual tour

The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame’s new STEM Interactive Gallery sponsored by SaskTel is now available to explore as a virtual tour.

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Interactive Gallery features a series of  “how-to” and “experimental” videos related to each aspect of STEM and is tailored towards visitors between 4-16 years of age. This gallery and virtual tour promotes activities that can be easily done at home while learning about the connection of sport to science, technology, engineering, and math.

Visitors to the STEM Interactive Gallery can test their vertical jump, their balance, their strength, their standing long jump, their flexibility, and their grip strength while also learning about some of the ways Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math are changing the sporting world.

STEM has been a growing field in schools for many years. While these topics can feel sedentary, the STEM Interactive Gallery allows students to mix learning with physical activity.

The STEM Interactive Gallery also helps bring some of the accomplishments of our SSHF inductees to life through to-scale measurements.

The Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame gratefully thanks the SaskTel Community Investment Program for their sponsorship of the STEM Interactive Gallery virtual tour.

In partnership with White Rabbit VR in Regina, this is the fourth virtual tour that has captured an exhibit at the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame. Our current featured exhibit – the national award-winning Prairie Pride: A History of Saskatchewan Football is available online as is Dedication to Sport: Our 2019 Inductees which celebrates our latest induction class.

Our first virtual tour from 2018, Diamond Girls’ Diamond Anniversary: 75 Years of the AAGPBL, also remains available to explore.
