Played Here stories over the history of Saskatchewan sport

Since its founding on October 31, 1966, the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame has preserved and celebrated sport across the province. Originally established as the Molson Sports Hall of Fame, it was officially opened by Lieutenant Governor R.N. Hanbidge and former National Hockey League general manager Frank Selke.

Played Here: 60 Years of Saskatchewan Sport marks 60 years by telling a story larger than individual achievement. Spanning the early 1900s to today, the timeline, artifact cases, and gallery walls highlight selected inductees whose accomplishments reflect Saskatchewan’s enduring spirit of perseverance, pride, and community.

Today, the Hall honours more than 561 inductees from 54 sports and over 150 communities. As a leading steward of Saskatchewan’s sport heritage, it recognizes excellence, preserves history, and shares the stories that connect past and present.

These inductees, our hometown heroes, embody the qualities often associated with Saskatchewan itself: hard work, humility, and a deep sense of community. Their stories trace not only the evolution of sport, but also the story of Saskatchewan, its foundation, growth, and ongoing progress.

Played Here features a timeline of the history of Saskatchewan sport in a chronological fashion. Complemented by photos and artifacts, the timeline features historic firsts, famous figures, and the incredible stories of Saskatchewan sport.

The exhibit also features a trophy case; a feature wall full of colourful artifacts and fine art; a corner with some of the artifacts from the Hall of Fame’s original home in the Molson’s Hospitality House in 1966, as well as programs and posters from previous induction classes. Also featured are exhibit cases that celebrate each the decades and the evolution of sport in the province.

There is also a new mini-theatre that features the official 1966 Grey Cup film with highlights from the game and the Grey Cup week, along with the 1966 Roughriders’ championship banner and a signed photo of the team.
