Saskatchewan in Crests

The use of crests in sport originated in the late 19th century, with European sport associations wishing to distinguish themselves from others. This was mostly accomplished by using club crests. Early crests often followed the design elements of the traditional coat of arms, mostly associated with noble European families. During the 20th century, these club crests evolved into team logos and advertisements that both team members and fans could wear with pride. The crests of Saskatchewan in Crests span four decades, from 1940 to 1980, offering a look at early handmade felt crests, as well as newer machine-embroidered crests from communities and sporting events within the province.
