A Donor’s Story: Jordana Buchan
Jordana Buchan made a big impact throughout her life and her selflessness touched many lives. Her lifelong passion for giving back to her community endures and will have a significant impact on the future of the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame (SSHF) through a legacy gift.
Jordana began her relationship with the Hall of Fame as a summer student and then completed a field placement with us through the Museum Technology program at Algonquin College. Jordana chose to donate her time by becoming a director on the SSHF Board. In 1998, at the age of 25, Jordana purchased a life insurance policy through the Sport Legacy Fund program choosing to designate the SSHF as the owner and beneficiary. In 2012, Jordana was diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. On July 12, 2021, Jordana lost her fight against cancer but her vision lives on.
Throughout her life, Jordana constantly strove to make the SSHF a better organization. Whether it was creating exhibits during her school years or pushing us to develop better education and special event programming to support family visitors in partnership with community organizations, her heart was always with the SSHF. Her enthusiasm was unbridled.
Jordana’s legacy gift will allow us to move forward with Phase II of our Hall of Fame Gallery exhibit. When complete, this final phase will provide hundreds of schoolchildren annually – not to mention visitors of all ages – the opportunity to truly immerse themselves in Saskatchewan’s sport history at a level never before available at the SSHF. It is a significant project made possible thanks to Jordana’s generous forethought.
Jordana’s legacy is our future!
